- Update: Safe Harbor
- In a letter to the EU Commission, the U.S. Department of the Treasury and Department of Commerce took a stance against the adoption of proposed standard clauses in the Safe-Harbor framework agreed between the United States and the European Union (we reported on 15th Nov.2000). The United States argues that the proposed standard clauses will introduce uncertainty in the use of contracts, are unduly burdensome and incompatible with real world operations. In sum, the proposed standard clauses are not a workable alternative model (http://www.epic.org/privacy/intl/mogg_letter_0301.html). The U.S. government seeks to continue negotiations on these issues in the coming months.
